From exploration to upstream processing Oil and Gas providers are faced with increasing challenges for resilient, wear resistant materials and solutions to manage projects within harsh environments. Customers within these industries are looking for greater durability and more robust options to replace traditional materials.
Get a quoteOur high performing ceramic materials are chosen to meet specific needs in niche applications across the petrochemical sector. For example, our technical ceramic's wear resistance properties extend component replacement intervals reducing the total cost of ownership.
Zirconia frac plug buttons for composite slips and frac plugs
MgO (Magnesium Oxide) blocks used in mineral insulated cables for oil extraction
Control valves parts (plugs, seats and cages)
Corrosion & erosion resistant ball and globe valves
Injection & dosing/metering pump valves and plungers
Our materials, coupled with our outstanding capability for manufacturing of complex components, help our customers to extend the life of their equipment and reduce unplanned downtime even in the most demanding onshore and offshore petrochemical applications.
At practically every stage of the production cycle our products outperform traditional solutions. Valve components, hydrocyclones and linings are all used to improve reliability in upstream processes.
Our engineers understand the operating environments, fluid compositions, and regulatory requirements of the petrochemical sector and work closely with customers to identify where ceramic provides the most compelling performance improvement.
Ceramic materials such as zirconia are ideal due to their toughness, strength & wear resistance.
Zirconia is used to replace tungsten carbide and steel. Morgan Technical Ceramics can retrofit problem parts in zirconia to solve wear and corrosion problems.
In directional drilling (Measurement While Drilling (MWD)/Logging While Drilling (LWD)), ceramic bearings, gap rings, and valve components operate in highly abrasive, high-pressure environments with limited opportunity for maintenance. Ceramic materials — particularly toughened zirconia and silicon nitride — offer the combination of high hardness, fracture toughness, and corrosion resistance needed to survive extended downhole runs in grit-laden drilling fluids.
Hydrocyclones are used to separate solids (sand, scale) from produced water. The high-velocity slurry flowing through the cyclone liner is intensely erosive. High-purity alumina liners outlast steel liners by a significant multiple, reducing the frequency of shutdowns required to replace worn liners and lowering the total cost of water treatment operations.
Yes. Morgan Technical Ceramics offers retrofit of problem parts in zirconia and other ceramic materials. We work from existing component drawings or worn parts to design and produce ceramic replacements that solve wear and corrosion problems. This approach allows customers to gain the benefits of ceramic without redesigning the surrounding valve assembly.
Zirconia (specifically Nilcra® toughened zirconia) offers wear resistance comparable to tungsten carbide, combined with significantly lower density, better corrosion resistance to many aggressive fluids encountered in oil and gas production, and the ability to be retrofitted into existing valve bodies designed for tungsten carbide. In many erosive-corrosive service conditions, zirconia outlasts tungsten carbide while reducing the cost and weight of the valve assembly.
