Porous Alumina

This material, manufactured under the trade name Alsint Porous, is a high purity Alumina which remains porous due to its grain structure even after high temperature firing.

Porous Alumina offers a range of distinct benefits and is particularly useful in high temperature environments. The grain structure of porous Alumina ensures excellent porosity even when the material has undergone firing at high temperatures, the result being better thermal shock resistance than the impervious Alumina.

The excellent high temperature stability of porous Alumina, frequently referred to as Alsint Porous, makes it a suitable option for insulation, furnace equipment as well as working tubes and muffles in furnace construction. In addition, the high refractoriness (similar to Alsint 99.7) means that porous Alumina is adept in furnace applications such as firing supports, props, crucibles and ignition dishes.

Typical characteristics include:

  • High temperature stability
  • Excellent thermal shock resistance
  • Good thermal insulation

Typical applications include:

  • Furnace muffles
  • Firing supports
  • Firing props
  • Crucibles
  • Ignition dishes
