Titania
At Morgan Technical Ceramics we utilise Titania predominantly as a bulk sintered material rather than in its powder form (which is unavailable for retail). In this form Titania is particularly suited for usage as thread guides, where compositional changes make it suitable for market specific applications.
Titania is normally tan coloured and is a proven material in the production of thread guides. It is the relatively ‘soft’ properties of this ceramic which make it easier to polish creating a kinder surface for more sensitive chemical fibres.
As well as the tan variety of Titania we also produce a black variant. This black Titania is a reduced form providing electrical conductivity; ideal for thread guides in environments where static electricity is an issue.
Whilst the low fracture toughness in relation to Alumina may make Titania unsuitable for certain mechanical applications, there are certain environments in which it excels.
Typical Titania characteristics include:
- Low friction
- High thermal conductivity
- Corrosion resistant
- Moderate strength
- High dielectric properties in pure form
- Electrical conductivity in reduced form
Typical Titania applications include:
- Thread guides
