Morgan Technical Ceramics highlights their Diamondshield® and Scanshield® scratch resistant coatings for clear displays at MD&M West

Feb 09, 2011

Morgan Technical Ceramics will be showcasing clear display scratch resistance coatings produced by its MTC Diamonex division at the Medical Design & Manufacturing West (MD&M West) Conference and Exposition, booth #3264, on February 8-10, 2011, in Anaheim, CA.

MTC Diamonex will be highlighting its Diamondshield® scratch-resistant coating for plastics and Scanshield-UV® wear-resistant coated glass.

In response to the proliferation of touch screen displays and the requirement to prevent or eliminate scratches while retaining visual display clarity on high wear surfaces, MTC Diamonex has developed a coating technology that can be applied to both glass and plastic. This eliminates the need to buy expensive protective screen guards.

When applied to plastics using a low temperature, chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process, this water-clear coating increases surface hardness to that of glass, providing enhanced durability and increased abrasion/scratch-resistance and wear-resistance.

Diamondshield coating increases the durability and robustness of portable electronic devices by strengthening the surface hardness of the plastic used on these devices. Because the coating is scratch-resistant, screens on electronic devices maintain clarity over time, making them easier to read and eliminating the need for secondary screen protectors. The Diamondshield coating gives plastic a previously unattainable scratch-resistance while maintaining plastic’s low cost, low weight, impact resistance and formability. The coating has exceptional transparency, with a low index of refraction and virtually no absorption in the visible wavelengths. The increased surface hardness and durability extends product lifespan, as there is less wear on parts.

Also on display is Scanshield-UV, an economical, wear-resistant glass coating for capacitive touch screens, high resolution data capture screens, and bar code scanner windows. Standard glass and strengthened glass products are both susceptible to scratching and scuffing, resulting in poor cosmetics and misreading of data.

Diamonex’s Scanshield-UV coating technology provides a superior surface with high hardness, chemical resistance and excellent UV transmission capabilities, which gives products extended life and improved durability, thus maintaining product quality.
